Beaumont, CA - At the regular City Council meeting held on April 5, 2022, the Council issued a proclamation declaring the month of April 2022, as Autism Awareness Month and the date of April 2, 2022, as World Autism Awareness Day, in the City of Beaumont. The proclamation serves to raise public awareness, acceptance, and inclusion of those with Autism and the myriad of issues surrounding the disorder, as well as to increase knowledge of the programs that have been and are being developed to support individuals with Autism and their families.
In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, the Beaumont Police Department is pleased to introduce to the public the Beaumont Police Department Puzzle Patch to help bring awareness to the need for a cure for autism. When people wear or display the puzzle piece, they support efforts to find a cure for Autism, as well as acceptance of those who live with Autism.
The puzzle piece is not limited to one community or a branded symbol of one organization. Instead, it signifies several major things unique to Autism and is a rallying point for the family and friends of those with Autism. The puzzle piece is the component which defines each person with Autism; that, without that piece, we couldn’t be the fantastic people that we are.
During the month of April, a family member of a child with Autism who comes to the police department lobby can ask for a puzzle patch for their child. If possible we would love to meet the child, but it is NOT a requirement to receive a patch. We recognize each child is different and there may be social or communication limitations, which may prevent that. The patches are available Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
